Honoring a Sacred Moment at the Washington National Cathedral

On September 16, our Artistic Director and Founder, Jenny Oaks Baker, experienced a profoundly meaningful moment at the Washington National Cathedral. She was invited to perform alongside her father, President Dallin H. Oaks, as he delivered an address on the importance of the U.S. Constitution and the principles that help strengthen and unify our nation.
For Jenny, sharing the stage with her father in such a historic and sacred space was both humbling and deeply moving. Her desire was simple yet heartfelt: to honor her father, honor her Heavenly Father, and offer music that could inspire unity among all who attended. In a time when division often feels overwhelming, Jenny’s hope was that her performance would encourage listeners to seek understanding, compassion, and connection.
Performing “Amazing Grace” and “America, the Beautiful” in the Cathedral was a moment she will never forget. These beloved hymns carried a spirit of hope—reminding us of the shared values and aspirations that can lift and unite communities across backgrounds and beliefs.
President Oaks shared a powerful message during his address:
“The Constitution compels a divided people to build coalitions to allow them to act together… It puts what we now call ‘peacemaking’ at the heart of the Constitution’s process for achieving freedom and unity, and fairness for all.”
